  1. How can I book a train ticket to Machu Picchu online?

    You can book your train ticket online through our website by selecting your departure station (Cusco, Wanchaq, Poroy, or Ollantaytambo), arrival station (Machu Picchu Pueblo), travel date, and number of passengers. After selecting the train and seat class, complete passenger details and payment. Your e-ticket will be sent to your email once confirmed.

  2. What are the main train classes to Machu Picchu?

    Peru Rail operates several classes including Expedition, Vistadome, Vistadome Observatory, and the luxury Hiram Bingham train. Each class offers different levels of comfort, onboard services, and scenic viewing experiences.

  3. When will I receive my train ticket?

    After successful payment, your ticket will usually be issued within 10–30 minutes and sent directly to your email. You may present either a printed copy or the digital ticket on your phone when boarding.

  4. How early should I book my train ticket?

    We recommend booking as early as possible, especially during the high season from May to September. Popular trains such as Vistadome and Hiram Bingham can sell out weeks in advance.

  5. How many tickets can I book in one reservation?

    Most reservations allow up to 6 passengers per booking. If you are traveling with a larger group, please contact our support team for assistance with group reservations.

  6. Do I need a Machu Picchu entrance ticket?

    Yes. Train tickets only provide transportation to Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes). You must also purchase a separate entrance ticket to visit the Machu Picchu archaeological site.

  7. What stations can I depart from?

    Trains to Machu Picchu depart from several stations including Cusco (Wanchaq), Poroy, and Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo is the most common departure station due to its frequent services.

TICKET CHANGES & REFUNDS

  1. Can I change my train ticket?

    Changes to train tickets are generally limited and depend on the train operator’s policies and ticket type. Some tickets may allow changes for a fee if requested before departure.

  2. Can I cancel my train ticket?

    Most train tickets to Machu Picchu are non-refundable once issued. Please review the fare conditions carefully before completing your booking.

LUGGAGE

  1. What is the luggage allowance on Peru Rail trains?

    Passengers may carry hand luggage up to 8 kg with maximum dimensions of 115 linear cm (height + length + width). Due to limited storage space, large suitcases are not permitted on board.

  2. Where can I store larger luggage?

    If you are staying in Cusco and traveling to Machu Picchu for one or two days, most hotels in Cusco offer luggage storage. Peru Rail also provides additional storage services at certain stations such as Ollantaytambo.

  1. What documents are required to board the train?

    You must present your e-ticket along with a valid passport or identification document used during the booking process. Railway staff may check identification before boarding.

  2. Is food available on the train?

    Yes. Depending on the train class, complimentary snacks and beverages may be included. On Expedition trains food and drinks are available for purchase, while Vistadome and luxury services include additional catering.

  3. Is the train journey to Machu Picchu scenic?

    Yes. The train ride through the Sacred Valley is considered one of the most scenic railway journeys in South America, offering views of rivers, mountains, forests, and traditional Andean villages.
